Spirits of Smethwick ?

Smethwick Baths has seen many interesting changes in its relatively short 80 year history. Built in 1933, the Grade II listed building with its Art Deco features dominates the street on which it stands, offering a glimpse into the grandeur and importance of this building in its hey-day Originally known as Thimblemill Baths, the centre became an important part of the local community as the local swimming pool, before taking on a much more important role following the outbreak of war. Extensive subways and cellars beneath the building served as an air-raid shelter for the local community during World War II, as well as a treatment area for the sick and injured. The area was used to store the bodies of those who lost their lives in the bombings and you can still see posters and drawings on the walls that date from this period. The tunnels are so disorientating in darkness that they are the perfect for Fire & Ambulance service training. Troops from the US Air Force were stationed just around the corner from the baths and it is thought that prisoners were interrogated deep in the bowels of the building. During the 1950s & 1960s, the pool was drained between the months of October & March and a sprung floor fitted for boxing matches, dance competitions and concerts. The building played host to some of the most famous bands, including The Who, The Rolling Stones and even The Beatles. Despite this, the building gained a reputation as one of the rougher dance halls and regular fighting and riots took place during the 60’s. So much activity has been reported at Smethwick Baths in recent years that the Council now have a list of contractors who refuse to work within its walls. Numerous apparitions have been seen in the Subways, including a small boy peering through a hole in the wall and a man and small child running in the direction where there is believed to be an escape hatch. On the balcony above the poolside, one of the seats refuses to remain in an upright position due to a resident spirit who doesn’t like others to sit there and heavy footsteps have been heard moving through the changing rooms when the building is empty. Your event will include a brief history of the location, before we switch off the lights and begin our investigation of this vast location. You will conduct séances, vigils and experiments in the most active areas of the building and work with our team of paranormal investigators and mediums to unmask the spirits and ghosts that lie within.
